Sirajul Islam, 22, arrested accused of nursing student Sadia rape and murder, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at Barisal Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Sirajul Islam was son of Ibrahim Mia of Khejurbaria Baro Machhua under Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district.
Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, director Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Sirajul admitted at the hospital on December 8 with injury and inflammation signs of physical assaults on the body.
He died under treatment at the hospital about 1:20 AM Sunday and dead body sent to morgue for autopsy.
S M Ruhul Amin, Barisal Metropolitan Police commissioner, said during giving confessional statement at court on December 5, the rape and murder accused Siraj was physically and mentally fit without any allegation of torture under police custody.
Then Siraj was sent to jail and arrested co-accused minor aged Hafiz sent to child correction center.
However, after receiving post mortem report the matter would be investigated if necessary, the BMP commissioner told.
Habibur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner and Custodian of Barisal Jail, said Siraj under jail custody became sick on December 8. He was sent to SBMCH and died there on early December 10. Without receiving postmortem report he could not say further.
Sub Inspector Abdul Wahab of Barisal Kotwali police station, denying any torture on Siraj, said after nabbed by local people Siraj handed over to Mathbaria police station under Pirojpur district on December 3.
A pair of earring of the victim was also recovered from the custody of Siraj and his associate Hafiz Akon, 14, son of Delwar Akon of same village was also arrested.
Both handed over to IO of the case on November 4 and they gave confessional statements at Barisal court on December 5.
