A murder accused, who killed his maternal cousin on Sunday noon, was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria on Monday.
Deceased has been identified as Sujan Mia (26), son of one Nurul Islam from Jagannathpur village. He was accused in several cases including murder, robbery and mugging, police sources said.
Salahuddin Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of Banchharampur Model Police Station, confirmed the news to the media and said that a team of police based on information
conducted a drive at Bhelanagar to arrest Sujan and his accomplices.
Sensing presence of police personnel, alleged criminals opened fire, prompting the lawmen to fire back that triggered a gunfight, he said.
Sujan was caught in the line of fire while the others managed to flee, the OC added.
After the gunfight, police rescued Sujan and took him to Banchharampur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Earlier on Sunday noon, Sujan Mia was accused in a case filed over killing his own cousin Mahbub Hasan Babu, OC added.
Five police members sustained injuries during the gunfight, OC Salahuddin further said.
The body was sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
