Following his achievements in the recently ended BPL, Bangladesh has called up opener Munim Shahriar for the T20I series against Afghanistan.
On Wednesday in the press conference, Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah Riyad stated that Munim has a high chance of making his debut today.
“Munim has a good chance tomorrow. I can’t say exactly since I saw the wicket today and hopefully we will plan on how we can arrange our batting lineup,” Mahmudullah said.
Munim’s inclusion means that Mohammad Naim, Bangladesh’s leading scorer in the tournament, could be benched tomorrow. Despite a bad BPL, Mahmudullah stated that the batter will not be written off.
“Regarding Naim, if you consider last year’s score, he was the highest scorer in the team and probably he didn’t bat too well in the BPL as we wanted. But he’s a very good player and he will come back. He is on track,” captain added.
Mahmudullah struck an unbeaten 29 from 53 balls with no boundaries in the third One Day International against Afghanistan. In the series, he faced 79 deliveries and only managed to hit one boundary.
In a press conference ahead of the two-match T20I series against Afghanistan, he was asked his recent form. Mahmudullah declared that he will do everything in his power to resolve this issue.
“I will try to hit boundaries from the very first ball. I will try to hit fours and sixes. I know I haven’t fielded well and I will try to improve that too,” he added.
