North South University’s Model United Nations Club (NSU MUN Club) recently organized Intra-NSU MUN Conference at the university.
The conference aimed at giving a glimpse of the UN’s operations, while preparing a training module for the NSU students. Inaugurated by Professor M. Emdadul Haque, club coordinator of NSU, the program was addressed by Dr. AQMA Rahman Bhuiyan, faculty adviser. Towkir Islam Khan, co-founder and current president of the club, and Zunayeed N. Alam, co-founder and secretary-general of the club, were also present at the event.
The conference’s theme was UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It consisted of four committees: the General Assembly Third Committee (GA3), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Around 170 students from all departments of the university participated in the day-long workshop that led to the two-day conference. The workshop was held to make the delegates aware of the rules and procedures of the conference.
The closing ceremony was attended by Professor Amin U. Sarkar, the university’s Vice-Chancellor. Professor Haq and Dr. Bhuiyan, as well as special guests Md. Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the United Nations Information Center, and Faiyaz Murshed Kazi, director of United Nations Desk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed the closing ceremony.
