M M Jasim :
The government imparted training to three teachers of Khurushkul High School in Cox’s Bazar on multimedia class, but no multimedia class was held in the last three months, according to a survey report done under the auspices of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE).
However, these Cox’s Bazar schools’ authorities claimed that they took eight multimedia classes.
At Rashidia Dakhil Madrasa in Sylhet, only one out of three trained teachers can create digital content. The authorities do not maintain multimedia class routine.
So is the scenario at most educational institutions across the country. As a result, the multimedia classroom project is going to be a fruitless one due to proper monitoring, negligence of the teachers, dearth of subjectwise teachers and classroom crisis.
The report prepared by the DSHE’s Monitoring and Evaluation Wing said the Tk 305.6 cr ICT Education in Secondary and Higher Secondary Level Project was introduced in 2014. The Directorate distributed the equipment to build multimedia classroom and ICT laboratory to 26, 000 schools, colleges and madrasas across the country.
Recently, the DSHE sought reports on multimedia classrooms from these 26,000 schools. But it found many irregularities in the reports sent by the schools concerned.
The DSHE officials later visited some educational institutions to get a feed back of the institutions under the project. DSHE found that a good number of educational institutions failed to reap the advantage of the project properly.
The teachers of the institutions have no classroom and are unable to build digital content, the DSHE officials also found.
Even the reputed schools and colleges of the capital Dhaka are not taking multimedia classes. The students of some institutions alleged that the teachers do not feel comfort to take multimedia classes. And even most of the times the computer rooms remain closed, some others pointed out. The DSHE officials were also informed by the students that the teachers set the instruments of the multimedia classrooms in the showcases. Some of the influential members of the managing committee use such instruments for their personal activities.
When his attention was drawn to the irregularities, Director General of DSHE Professor S M Wahiduzzaman said the field level monitoring is going on to detect irregularities. “We will take action if the monitoring team finds any negligence.”
The DG said most of the teachers were imparted training. No one can avoid his or her responsibility, he asserted.
