Keramat Mawla is the life of country’s theatre plays. He won the hearts of many viewers to act in many theatre plays, television and Betar dramas and movies. He touched the feelings of the audience by virtue of his acting quality and skill in these dramas and films which made him a multidimensional actor. Today (November 15) is the birthday of Keramat Mawla. He will turn into 80. He was born at Shirgaon village in Mohammadpur upazila in Jashore on this day
in 1942. Though he started study in Kolkata but later came to Dhaka and completed SSC from Priyonath High School. Then studying at Charukala of University of Dhaka he got
attachment with Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin.
Under self direction, Keramat Mawla first acted in Narayan Gangopadhyay written drama Bharate Chai. He received drama award to act in drama Manchitro, directed by Hesham Uddin Ahmed and scripted by Anis Chowdhury, on the occasion of ‘Education Week 60.’ From 60s to 70s, he was actively participated in progressive students’ politics at University of Dhaka. As a part of his acting career, Keramat Mawla acted one after another in theatre plays like Tasher Desh, Raja O Rani, Rokto Korobi, Biborton, Bindu Bindu Rong, Dakghor, Oedipus, Prochchhodpot, Onek Tarar Hatchhani, Lallonthon, Buro Shaliker Ghare Ro, Charidike Juddho, Othello, Shenapoti, Mohapurush, Chor Chor and many more. In Theatre produced drama Payer Awaj Pawa Jai, he has been acting in role of an old man for last 41 years in a row.
In 1967, Keramat Mawla joined in BTV as Assistant Designer. He first acted in Fakhrul Alam directed drama Manush Omanush in
television. Later, he also acted in movies Angikar, Surjo Dighol Bari, Ekhon-e Shomoy, Mohanayok, Rajlokkhi Srikanto, Rani Khaler Shanko, Gorom Hawa, Padma Nodir Majhi, Nodir Naam Modhumoti, Annyojibon, Dukhai, Molla Barir Bou, Nondito Noroke, etc. He got Ekushey Padak in 2014.
While talking about his birthday this veteran actor said, “It is true that there is extra delighted to celebrate birthday. But I have no interest to arrange any festivity on the occasion of my
birthday. My family tries to make this day special for me. But it is really a painful matter for me that my parents are not alive now. I am grateful to Allah to give me a nice life. I am happy
with my wife, son and two grandchildren.”
Besides acting, Keramat Mawla has been engaged with guest faculty at Department of Film and Media Studies at Stamford University since 2007. Andhokarei Alo, Nodir Arek Naam, Phire Dekha, Matir Koley, Gohorgachhi, Tini Ekjon Muktijoddha, Jonaki Jwoley, etc are his acted
mentionable works for television dramas.
