Satkhira girl Mukta Moni, has been affected by a rare birth time disease. But the name of the disease could not be identified till yesterday. A medical board has been formed for her treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said doctors on Sunday.
“It may be ‘Lymphatic Malformations’. It is a rare, non-malignant masses consisting of fluid-filled channels or spaces thought to be caused by the abnormal development of the lymphatic system. These malformations are usually apparent during birth or when two years of age,” said Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Surgery Consultant of DMCH to journalists on Sunday.
He said that some pathological tests of blood, urine, CT scan, MRI and Ultra-sonogram of Mukta Moni have been done. The reports of all the tests will be available today.
“After getting the reports, we may be able to say the name of the disease. The treatment will be given to her gradually, step by step,” Dr. Mahbub said.
Earlier, a eight member medical board has been formed to ensure her treatment in DMCH.
Dr. Mahbub said that Mukta had been affected by a birth time disease. But such type of disease cannot be identified just after birth. It takes nearly two years for exposure of the symptoms
of the disease, he added.
The 12 years old girl has developed symptoms similar to the ‘tree-man disease’, mainly in her right hand, in which the skin deteriorates to give way to debilitating growths akin to the bark of a tree.
