The much talked biennial election to Chittagong District Bar Association (CDBA) held Tuesday last with three panels contesting the election.
The casting of votes begins from early 9 am which continued upto 4 pm. President candidate Mujibul Hoque of Samanoy Parishad elected President securing 1041 votes while the Oikya Parishad candidate secured 1019 votes. On the other hand Oikya Parishad candidate Md. Enamul Hoque elected General Secretary securing 1222 votes while the Samanoy Parishad candidate Mezbahuddin Chowdhury secures 906 votes.The 3-members election commission headed by Sirajul Alam declared the results of the election after midnight.
Chief election commissioner Advocate Sayed Mohammad Sirajul Alam told that in 19 posts includes 9 posts including President , Secretary and 10 executive members and 49 candidates from 3 panels contested the election.
Three panels, Awami League and pro-liberation forces backed Chattagram Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, progressive and left leaning Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and pro- BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are vying for posts in the election this year.
The elected other office bearers from Awami league backed panel are – Asstt. Patik kumar Dev, finance secretary Papri Sultana, and Information Secretary SM Sirajdowla.The elected executive members of this panel include- Md. Mosharaf Hossain, Raihanul Alam, Firojuddin Tarek, Momtaz Begum, Jinnat Sohana, and Didarul Alam.
Mohammad Mujibul Hoque from Sommilito Ainjibi Somonnoy Parishad, Akter Kabir Chowdhury from Somomona Ainjibi Sangsad and Mohammad Kafiluddin Chowdhury from Ainjibi Oikya Parishad are contesting for the post of President.
Besides, Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury from Somonnoy Parishad, S M Jahed Biru from Somomona Sangsad and Mohammad Enamul Hoque from Oikya Parishad are in the race for the post of General Secretary.
The counting of votes going on fullswing and the final results will be announced by 10 pm (Tuesday), EC sources said. Beside the general Secretary, the other candidates fro m Oikya Parishad elected as Senior vice president Abul Kalam Azad, vice president Md. Afazur Rahman, Library Sectary Showkat Awal, Sports Secretary Hasan Mahmud Chowdhury and the elected executive members are – M.Helaluddin, Maskura Begum, Rabiu l Hossain and Rafiqul Alam. ECsources said 2,856 voters caste their votes in the election out of totat 3,398 voters.
