Mujibnagar ‘Map Project’ being executed

MUJIBNAGAR (Meherpur): The government has carried out extensive development activities, including the ‘Map Project’, to highlight the importance of historic Mujibnagar to people at home and abroad.
A proposal has also been sent to the Indian government to open a land port in Mujibnagar to let the local and foreign tourists know about the glittering history of the place related to Bangladesh’s independence and Liberation War.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haq told that tourists from different countries would visit the area, when a land port will come into operation in Mujibnagar.
Then they would know the history of the Liberation War by visiting the historic sites, he added. The minister hoped that the work of Mujibnagar Mausoleum would fully complete by July. Mozammel Haq said various infrastructures, including Liberation War-based map and museum, have already been constructed at a cost of Taka 100 crore.
Besides, the government has constructed a number of modern multi-storey buildings.
The establishments constructed so far include Parjatan motel, shopping mall, child home (shishupalli), mosque, post office and telephone office. Internal roads, a helipad and a rose garden have also been built.
Referring to the map and the museum, the minister said the map is displaying 11 sectors of the Liberation War. Forty sculptures of eminent persons, who played historic roles during the Liberation War, have been set up around the map, he added.
Besides, there are photos and sculptures of the Liberation War-time chief of army staff, deputy chief, Bir Uttams, four national leaders and other important personalities in the museum.
Outside the map, there are murals on Bangabandhu’s 7th March speech, massacres of March 25 night, repression of women by Pakistani army, burning of houses by the occupation forces, oath-taking of Mujibnagar government on April 17 in 1971, guard of honor presented to the first head of the government and the surrender of the Pakistani army.
