‘Mujibnagar govt first legitimate government’

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said Mujibnagar government, formed on April 10 in 1971, is the first legitimate government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
“The anti Liberation War forces were the first clique in the country who tried to attack and do conspiracy against the fact that Mujibnagar government is the first legitimate government of Bangladesh. So, the new generation needs to be aware of the evil forces,” said Akhtaruzzaman.
The vice chancellor said this on Sunday while addressing a discussion in the auditorium of university’s Student-Teacher Center on the occasion of historic Mujibnagar Day, said a press release, reports BSS.
DU Pro-VC (Administration) Dr Mohammad Samad, Treasurer Prof Momtaj Uddin Ahmed, DU Teachers Association (DUTA) president Prof Md Rahmat Ullah, General Secretary Prof. Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan and DU Registrar Prabir Kumar Sarker, among others, also addressed on the occasion.
Highlighting the background and significance of the historic Mujibnagar government, Akhtaruzzaman said that the government was formed in the light of the constitutional basis and legal framework with the people’s representatives of the Awami League that won the general election of 1970.
This government, formed following the directives of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, led the great Liberation War in 1971, he added.
