The nation will observe the historic Mujibnagar Day 2015 on April 17 in a befitting manner commemorating the formation of the provisional government of independent Bangladesh in exile during the War of Liberation in 1971.
Elaborate programmes have been chalked out at the national level in observance of the day, said a handout.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will issue messages separately highlighting the importance of the day.
On April 17 in 1971, the provisional Bangladesh government in exile named “Mujibnagar Government” was constituted with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the President, Syed Nazul Islam as the Vice President, Tajuddin Ahmed as the Prime Minister, Khondokar Mostaque Ahmed as the Foreign Minister, M Mansur Ali as the Finance Minister and AHM Quamaruzzaman as the Home and Relief Minister.
This core cabinet steered the liberation war to the victory on December 16 that year (1971).
The day’s programs will begin by hoisting of national flag at the Mujibnagar Memorial in Meherpur at dawn. Cabinet members and renowned personalities will place wreaths the Mujibnagar Memorial at 8 am. Freedom fighters, Police, Ansar-VDP, scouts and students of colleges-schools present guard of honour.
A discussion meeting will be held at the Sheikh Hasina Mancha in Mujibnagar at 9-30 am. Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will attend the discussion as the chief guest. Health and family welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim will preside while LGRD and cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam will attend it as main speaker.
Besides, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haq and local leaders of ruling Awami League will address it.
National dailies will publish special supplement and electronic media telecast different programmes on the day. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and different socio-cultural organizations will organize discussion meetings and, cultural programmes and screen films.
Important buildings and establishments, mail roads and road-islands will be decorated with the national flags and illuminated on the occasion of the day. Similar programmes will also be taken at district and upazila level. Bangladesh missions abroad will also chalk out programmes in observance of the day.
