Mujahid’s appeal hearing Jan 14

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will start on January 14, 20015 the appeal hearing of condemned prisoner Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid against the ICT-2 verdict sentencing him to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain set the date on Wednesday.
After finding the 1971 Al Badr boss guilty of five, out of seven, charges, the
 International Crimes Tribunal-2 on July 17 last year awarded Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid death penalty for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in collaboration with the Pakistan occupation forces.
The charges included murder of intellectuals, genocide, abduction and persecution.
On August 11 last year, condemned prisoner Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid on Sunday filed an appeal with the Appellate Division against his capital punishment in the case for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Mujahid, now 66, was held responsible for abduction and murder of intellectuals, including noted journalist of the daily Ittefaq Sirajuddin Hossain and other cultural personalities like composer Altaf Mahmud and illustrious teachers like Muneir Chowdhury and murder and torture of minority community Hindus in Faridpur district.
