Another accused in the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad murder case has given his confessional statement before a Dhaka court.
Mujahidur Rahman Mujahid, a third year student of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) department of the university, gave his confessional statement before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessy on Sunday.
Mujahid, also an Eexecutive Member of BUET unit Chhatra League, is one of the 19 accused in the Abrar murder case.
In the statement, he said, BUET BCL Organizing Secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin ordered him to get a rope during the incident, according to court sources.
Mujahid brought the rope from the ground floor of the university’s dormitory (Sher-e-Bangla Hall), and it was later used to beat Abrar, the sources said.
Mujahid, however, expressed his repentance for his involvement in the incident, the court sources added.
Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of police Inspector Md Wahiduzzaman, also the case’s investigation officer, produced Mujahid before the court after the end of his five-day remand.
After recording his statement, the court ordered to send him to jail.
Abrar, a second year student of EEE department, was tortured to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him to death, for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir. Abrar’s father filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station on October 7 evening.
