15 villages inundated: Muhuri River embankment washed away

Heavy rain over the past few days and onrush of hilly water washed away parts of Silonia embankment on the River Muhuri submerging 15 villages of Fulgazi upazila in Feni.
The home yards and roads have gone under knee-deep water and the people are moving to and fro, wading through water.
The flood has damaged roads and corps in the areas.
The inundated areas are Dawlatpur, Uttar Dawlatpur, West Dawlatpur, Bayragpur, Joypur,
 Teteswashar, Ghaniamora, Monipur, Nikhli, Gabtola, Montola, Goshaipur, Shahebnagar and Melaghar.
Sakina Khatun from Uttar Dawlatpur said, the water entered her house suddenly making like miserable.
“I cannot cook as water damaged my kitchen house. I am taking dry food only now,” Sakina said.
Feni Water Development Board Executive Engineer Kohinur Alam said that they had written to the higher authorities about quick necessity of repairing damaged part of the embankment.
The tidal waters entered vast areas through the breaches of the flood control embankment at Dawlatpur, Ghaniamora, Joypur and Teteswashar points.
Chairman of Fulgazi upazila Abdul Alim told the The New Nation that many houses were flooded and the people suffered heavy losses as many farmlands were inundated and floodwater washed away the ponds with fish.
“More than 500 shops were flooded in Fulgazi Bazar and the shopowners suffered heavy losses as stocked items in those shops were damaged by the floodwater,” he said.
“A list of the affected families would be prepared for seeking help from the government,” the Chairman said.
