Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Sunday inaugurated the 4-day long Bangladesh Summit on “Sustainable Development” at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building of Dhaka University (DU).
Presided over by Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, convener of Global Citizen’s Forum on Sustainable Development, the function was also addressed by DU vice-chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, resident representative of UNFPA in Bangladesh Ms Argentina Matavel Piccin and Dr Md Shamim Haider, among others.
Muhith said the present government is working for eliminating social inequalities and to achieve the sustainable development, a press release said.
“Bangladesh is gradually doing well in the human development index. People’s purchasing power and per capita income are also rising. The county is expected to become a middle income one by 2021 and a developed nation by 2041,” he said.
A total of 26 organizations from home and abroad are taking part in the summit.
