Finance Minister AMA Muhith has emphasised making the process of tax collection more easy and tax-payer friendly.
He made the call to the tax collectors while speaking at a programme on the National Income Tax Day in Dhaka on Monday.
“Our policy is to reduce harassment [in this process],” he said.
Muhith suggested making the taxpayers feel that they are contributing to the national development.
“We are getting positive results. The amount of tax returns has increased – which is a sign of progress,” he said.
The National Board of Revenue has been observing Sept 15 as the National Income Tax Day since 2008.
Income tax is the biggest revenue source in the current 2014-15 budget where the government targets Tk 575 billion from the sector.
In the previous fiscal, the sector yielded around Tk 440 billion.
The NBR aims at collecting Tk 15 billion from this year’s income tax fair.
