Staff Reporter :
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Friday collected ruling Awami League’s nomination form as a party aspirant to contest in the upcoming general election from Sylhet-1 Constituency.
His son Saheed Muhith collected the form in the afternoon from AL office in Dhaka.
When asked, Saheed Muhith told The New Nation that his father went to the party office physically to buy the nomination. But he could not collect the form immediately because
of huge rush of aspirants and party activists. So, I bought the nomination for my father. Finance Minister’s brother former Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Dr AK Abdul Momen also bought AL’s nomination paper for Sylhet-1 Constituency.
“I do not want to take part in the next election…. and it is my decision. However, I will submit the nomination paper as a ‘dummy candidate’. If candidature of my successor is missed then I have to join the poll race. This is a routine matter. I want to retire,” Muhith told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase in the Secretariat on Thursday. The octogenarian earlier said: “I’ve been working for long. Now I truly know that I am going to retire, and it will be in December.” AL on Friday morning inaugurated the sale of nomination forms among the party aspirants for 300 constituencies for the 11th parliamentary election slated for December 23.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader inaugurated the sale of nomination forms at the party office in Dhaka in the morning.
