A police constable was stabbed by mugger while approached to nab them in Saver area on Wednesday.
The injured identified as Mohammad Rabbi, who is a constable of Savar Police Station, and has been receiving treatment at Enam Medical College Hospital for wounds in the chest.
Savar Police Station’s Inspector (investigation) Saiful Islam confirmed the matter and told reporters that they arrested 10 including Sabbir who stabbed the constable.
They nine others arrestees are: Jahirul Islam, Lal Mia, Mohammad Ali, Rahim Babu, Rashed, Nazrul Islam, Al Amin, Kamal Hossain and Sujan Sikder.
He said that a transport worker made a complaint at emergency helpline number 999 about a mugging incident around 2am. The complainant alleged that a group of people mugged Tk5,300 and a mobile phone from him while he was on his way home.
And a police team conducted raid at Anandapur area under Savar municipality after informing the matter to arrest the muggers, he added.
At one stage, one of the criminals, named Sabbir Hossain, stabbed the constable while trying to flee, leaving him critically injured. Police later chased and arrested 10 persons including Sabbir from the spot, he further said.
A case was filed with the police station in this regard.
