UNB, Dhaka :
Beware! You may fall prey to muggers while crossing some places in the capital that have been earmarked as ‘hotspots of mugging’. Talking to victims and law enforcement officials, the UNB correspondents found out that the muggers usually snatch mobile phone sets, laptops, other electronic devices, handbags and ornaments from women.
On August 11 last, Sadia Afrin, 22, fell victim to muggers while she was going to Khagrachhari from Sayedabad Bus Terminal by a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan.
“As the bus started moving on from the terminal, I picked up my mobile phone set to make a call. And suddenly a mugger snatched the set as the window of the bus was open,” Sadia told UNB.
Mamunur Rashid, an official of a private organization, was mugged near Ansar Camp in Mirpur-1 while he was going to his home by a rickshaw with a laptop.
“It was around 10 am. I was going back home at Kalyanpur from
Mirpur-1 by a rickshaw. Muggers riding a motorcycle positioned themselves beside by rickshaw while I was passing by Ansar Camp and snatched my laptop,” Mamunur said.
According to the victims, the muggers adopt different techniques depending on the time of the day.
The muggers usually prey on rickshaw passengers at dawn using microbus and private car. The precision snatchers haunt the passengers of CNG auto-rickshaw after the evening to night by cutting the backside of CNG-driven auto-rickshaw when the passengers use mobile phones.
