A battery-run rickshaw driver was killed by some unidentified muggers at Nayagaon village in Munshiganj Sadar upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Mintu Mia, 30, son of Moslem Mia, from Nayagaon village in the Sadar upazila.
The hijackers fled the spot with the auto-rickshaw when the driver fell on the road with severe injuries in attack, police said.
Quoting locals, Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, said that
muggers carried out massive attack with sharp weapons when Mintu was going for passengers to a nearby place at 5:30am.
Locals found Minto in pool of blood on the road and took him to Munshiganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead around 6:15am, the OC said.
We are investigating the incident to unearth the cause of incident, the police official said.
Several injury marks were found in his chest, belly and head, he said.
The body had been sent to hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said.
