A suspected mugger was shot in the leg in a reported shootout with police members in West Khulshi area of Chattogram city early yesterday..
The injured–Md Rubel, and two of his associates–Md Jahid, 18 and Shanto, 17 were detained.Three policemen were also injured.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Senior Assistant Commissioner (Bayazid Zone) Paritran Talukder confirmed the matter to media person.An LG, 2 rounds of bullet, 2 rounds of cartridge and 2 knives were recovered from the spot, he said.
Khulshi Police Station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Pranab Chowdhury said the muggers opened fire at police when the law enforcers went to detain them in a hill adjacent to Jalalabad Nilachal Housing area. Police fired back, in retaliation.Rubel was detained from the spot with bullet injuries. He was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
The arrestees are linked to a mugging gang active in Lalkhan Bazar, said Paritran Talukder.
On Friday (June 7), one Salman Hossain, 18 was arrested over mugging one Sentu Dey in Lalkhan Bazar. He gave confessional statement to the court, said the OC.
