A suspected mugger was killed and another injured in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in city’s Hatirpool area on Tuesday night.
Mugger is identified as Shoshan Mitra, 42, son of one Kanailal Mitra.
The incident happened in city’s Hatirpool area on Tuesday midnight.
Mohiuddin Faruqi, Commander of RAB-2 confirmed the matter to the media that “Acting on a
tip-off, three motorbike riders mugged a man in front of Labaid Hospital around 12:45am and fled the scene.
When the motorbike reached Hatirpool area, the members of elite force asked them to surrender. However, the muggers opened fire targeting the law enforcers.
When RAB fired back, Shoshan injured instantly, while another suspected mugger managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctors declared Shoshan dead.
