UNB, Dhaka :A suspected mugger was killed and another injured in a reported gunfight with police in the city’s PuranaPaltan area on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Shamim, 30, while the injured is Abdul Karim, 34. Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said a group of snatchers took away Tk 1 lakh from a trader at Topkhana Road around 9:30pm.Locals chased the muggers while fleeing. At one stage, police also chased them. However, the hoodlums opened fire on the law enforcers at UBL crossing, forcing them to fire back.Shamim and Karim sustained bullet injuries to their thigh in the legs while their other accomplices managed to flee. Police took them to the DMCH where Shamim died at around 11:15pm. Police also recovered the looted money.
