Islamist Mufti Hamza yesterday made confession in a Dhaka court admitting his involvement in misinterpreting religion and spreading extremism.
Magistrate Morsshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan of the CMM Court of Dhaka recorded his confessional statement. Earlier, CTTC Police Inspector Kazi Mizanur Rahman, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case produced Mufti Hamza in the Magistrate’s chamber on Monday to record his statement. Later, the court sent the accused to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
Islamist Amir Hamza, was arrested by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Later, he was placed on a 5-day remand on May 25 in the case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station of the capital.
In the confessional statement, Hamza admitted to delivering provocative speeches in videos on YouTube and Facebook, however, he denied ordering any attack on the parliament.
The islamist orator was arrested from a village in the Islamic University Thana area of Kushtia on Monday, May 24. Following the arrest, CTTC unit Joint Commissioner Ilias Sharif had said a young man named Shakib was arrested from the parliament area with a sword on May 5, and Hamza was arrested based on information in Shakib’s confessional statement.
