A muazzin was stabbed to death by some unknown assailants inside a mosque in city’s Islampur area early Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Belal Hossain, 55, was the muazzin of Jabbar Khan Jam-e-Masjid at Islampur. He had been living in a room of the three-storey mosque for 20 years and hailing from Manikganj district, police said.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hossain said, “Local people found the body in
a pool of blood on the stairs of the mosque when they went to the mosque for offereing Fajr prayer. On information, law enforcers rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the second floor of the mosque.”
A gang of miscreants might killed him before 5:00am, the police official said.
Belal used to live in a room, which was found locked from outside, on the second floor of the mosque, he said.
The body was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said.
There are five stab wounds-three on the chest and one each on the hand and back, he said.
“We could not indicate any motive behind the murder or who might have killed muazzin, the police official said.
A case has been filed in this connection.
Police interrogated some local people in this connection, he said.
