MSC sign players with hopes to regain former glory

Traditional powerhouse Mohammedan sounded early warning as they formed a strong side for upcoming football season by signing up some young and ‘fringe footballers as they completed its players’ registration formalities on Thursday, just three days before the conclusion of the transfer window.
Fans of Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) were really depressed as their favourite club turned into a mediocre side. While their traditional rival Abahani did quite well bagging hat-trick in the first three editions of the professional football league.
MSC whereas finished at 10th out of 12 teams last season to the dismay of their vociferous supporters and they was cry from fans urging the officials to form a competitive side this season.
However, this time the club management came forward to spend big for the first time in last eight years to rope in some celebrated footballers like Zahid Hasan Emily, Nasirul Islam, Abdul Baten Komol, Tokhlis Ahmed, Faisal Mahmud, Mamun Khan, Rezaul Karim Reza, Mithun Chowdhury, Rasel Mahmud Liton and the management expects to get better results in upcoming season, which is supposed to get underway from May 12 through Federation Cup.
“We have tried to assemble the good footballers as we have considered their last season’s performance. Besides, we have also taken two foreigners – Nigerian Eleta Kingsley and Samsan Iliasu –, who were also in good form last season. I can tell you it is a new squad as we released all last season’s players except only five,” said Mohammedan football manager Amirul Islam Babu at the BFF House today to sports scribe.
A local Club source disclosed said that Mohammedans have roped in players with an average range of Tk 20-25 lakh.
“It is our challenge to play good football as some five to six clubs formed good team for the title race. We want to win one or two trophies this season but it depends on how we can work hard throughout the season,” said striker Zahid Hasan Emily.
