Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club came from behind to beat Arambagh KS by 4-1 goals in a Group B match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Tuesday and reached the quarterfinals of the Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup Football Tournament.
Arambagh KS, which earlier lost to Dhaka Abahani Ltd 2-0, has been eliminated from the meet with two defeats, giving an easy passage for Mohammedan SC to reach the last eight.
Arambagh KS took lead in the very 4th minute of the match shocking Mohammedan SC whose defender Mintu Sheikh sent the ball into his own net while trying to clear a low cross by Arambagh skipper Kanchan (1-0)
Mohammedan, which quickly absorbed the shock, scored the equalizer in the 7th minute after the ball from Zahid Hossain’s corner kick landed in the middle of the box and Nigerian midfielder Damien Chigozie’s right footer kissed the Arambagh net giving no chance to goalie Bishnu to react (1-1)
Mohammedan skipper cum national striker Zahid Hasan Emily put his team ahead in the 41st minute with a neat finishing. Correctly anticipating a left flank cross of Zahid Hossain, Emily slotted home with a right footer (2-1)
Touhidul Alam Sabuj, the Mohammedan forward, who earlier missed a chance in one to one situation with custodian Bishnu put his name in the scorer’s list in the 57th minute. Sabuj flicked the ball into the net when Arup Baidya cut a low cross from the right flank (3-1).
Emily scored his second goal, the 4th goal for the black and white team, in the 59th minute by a cool headed right footer dodging past Bishnu in a one to one situation (4-1).
