Mr Trump has a lot to prove about his American values: We pray

So Mr Trump finally did it. Surpassing all predictions of elite and pollsters he snatched victory to be the 45th President of the most powerful country. The man likened to an orangutan due to the color and style of his hair is now the new President. His victory remains unbelievable. A man who insulted decorated war veteran John McCain, picked a fight with Fox News and its popular presenter, Megyn Kelly and basically gaffed his way through the three presidential debates with clearly lightly practised performances defied all expectations to be the winner.

He called Hillary Clinton a nasty woman and she would be locked up. Thus election was most ugly in US history. So much has to change for the President to run the presidency.

While Mr Trump took dips in the polls following some of the more outrageous utterances, his approval was like a cork — eventually bouncing back to the surface. One reason for this was perhaps his no holds barred attitude which proved his independence and outside status to the American public — it was a great way to appeal to a swathe of white voters who may have felt that they were continually being overlooked and economically disenfranchised.

In the final days of the campaign, however, the reality is that the polls were close enough that Mr Trump had a pathway to victory. But few people had predicted that he would win. The result is beyond belief of most Americans and most of the world.

Whatever the results, the democratic way of peaceful transfer of power has been assured. Although Mrs Clinton won the majority vote, the electoral vote was against her. She did not make a fuss and accepted the result calmly. Congratulated Mr Trump on his victory.

This orderly and peaceful transition of power is the hallmark and the main reason why the US remains a great democratic nation, although it occurs rarely in no other parts of the world. The Republicans had reason to rejoice, as they won not just the Presidency but also the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Whatever be the surprise, the US has a new President. How he will shape his policy and treat minorities, especially Muslims, remains to be seen. He also cannot go on building walls. He has called for an end to division but much remains to be seen as to what he would actually do once in the White House.

Mr Trump, a successful businessman but without any experience in politics took full advantage of the remnants of divisive and racist politics which are non-American and contrary to American values that have made America so great in the world. America has no greatness if it is not a force of human rights and fair justice for the mankind everywhere.

As President, Mr Trump’s immediate crisis will be to unite the nation and earn the confidence of his own people and countries outside. His policy of America first cannot be the vision of a great America. The protesters in thousands came out in the streets of America to know how respectful he will be to the American values and American world vision. They also burn his effigy. Many said it was the most horrible day.

Thus Mr Trump has to prove a lot about his true-self as American to be a successful President. There are apprehensions everywhere, mostly in America. Let him prove that others are wrong.

We pray for Mr Trump and we pray for the American people.
