Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users Association (MPUA) on Monday urged the government in a statement to allocate free bandwidth to the mobile operators for a certain period of time on account of the corona virus outbreak so that they can offer free internet services to the users.
The association said that free telecommunication services had been ensured in other countries to the citizens during the virus crisis period.
“Our government can take the initiative so that the people stay at home,” said Mohiuddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Users Association. He said, people are staying at home since the countrywide shutdown from March 25 and doing their office work using the internet.
On account of the corona virus crisis, voice calls have declined by 20 percent though internet use increased by 25 percent. The operators are thus incurring huge revenue losses, he said, so the government can thus consider free spectrum allocation.”
