Dr Shamarukh's death: MP Tipu, his wife get bail

A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to former Awami League MP Khan Tipu Sultan of Jessore-5 constituency and his wife Jesmin Ara in the case filed in connection with the death of their daughter-in-law Shamarukh Mahjabin Kona.
Judge Md Ruhul Amin of Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court granted bail on a bond of Tk 50,000 after the couple appeared to his court seeking bail on Sunday morning.
Earlier, the couple secured a four week anticipatory bail from a bench of the High Court and that expired on Sunday.
Shamarukh Mahjabin Kona, 24, wife of Sadab Sultan, elder son of the former lawmaker, was found hanging in her bedroom on November 13. She was an intern physician of Holy Family Medical College Hospital while her mother-in-law Dr Jesmin is a professor at gynecology department of the same college.
Lawmaker Tipu Sultan claimed Kona hanged herself in her bedroom. Following the incident, Mahjabin’s father Engineer Nurul Islam filed a case against Tipu Sultan, his wife and Mahjabin’s husband who is now in the jail.
The post autopsy report confirmed the suicide of Shamarukh. The family of the victim however turned down the report published saying that it was motivated and a fresh autopsy was conducted on December 01. The report of the second autopsy is yet to be declared.
