MP `shoots` child in Gaibandha

A child sustained bullet injury in a firing of ruling party lawmaker of Gaibandha-1 constituency Manzurul Islam Liton on Friday morning. The incident happened around 5.40am at Gopalcharon BRAC More in district’s Sundarganj. The injured boy is as Sourav (10), a student of class three. Sourav’s father Saju Mia alleged that his son was hit by the MP`s pistol, when he was walking with his uncle in the morning. The lawmaker was passing the area and told a man to get into his car. Instead of getting in, the man, who had apparently panicked, began to run, when an agitated Liton opened fire. The locals rescued the boy and sent him to Sundarganj Hospital. Later he was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. The police, however, did not confirm whether the child had been hit by shots fired by the local lawmaker. Sundarganj Thana OC said he heard the boy had been injured after shots were fired by Liton and that the incident was being investigated. It has been alleged those close to the MP had tried prevent the child from being taken to hospital in an attempt to hush up the matter. Gaibandha-1 MP and Sundarganj Upazila Awami League President Liton was not available for comments. The MP could not be contacted despite several attempts as his phone remained switched off. Sundarganj hospital’s sources said hat the boy had gunshot wounds on both legs. The injured boy Sourav lives with family at Gopalcharan area of Sundarganj town.–risingbd.com
