Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury, lawmaker from Sylhet-3 constituency, died from Covid-19 infection at a hospital in Dhaka on Thursday.
Chowdhury, also Sylhet district Awami League Vice President, breathed his last around 2:30pm at the United Hospital where he was undergoing treatment since Sunday.
He did not attend any programme on March 7 (Sunday) due to his sickness for last few days.
Chowdhury’s condition worsened on that day while returning to Dhaka from Sylhet by air.
On arrival Dhaka, he was rushed to the hospital, said Julhas Ahmed, Mahmud’s personal secretary.
He was tested for Covid-19 on Monday and the report came positive. Chowdhury, was put on ventilation following deterioration of his condition.
The parliamentarian received his first dose of coronavirus vaccine on February 10, but, had no major side effect.
He was the son of Abdus Samad Chowdhury who was the Foreign Minister during 1996-2001 period.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thas expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of lawmaker and Sylhet District Awami League Vice-President Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury.
In a condolence message, the Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
