A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) rejected the bail plea of Abdur Rahman Bodi, MP from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency, in a case filed for his alleged amassing of illegal asset.
Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Md Jahurul Haque passed the order in the afternoon although the hearing on bail petition was held in the morning.
On October 12, Magistrate Maruf Hossain of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka sent Bodi to jail rejecting his first bail petition.
On August 21, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Khairul Huda and Abdus Sobahan filed the case with Ramna Police Station against him.
On September 11, he appeared in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court and sought bail and the apex court granted four weeks’ bail to him.
On Sunday, he appeared in the CMM Court and sought bail but Magistrate Md Maruf Hossain rejected his bail plea and sent him to jail.
The sources said that the watchdog charged Bodi with concealing information of his assets worth Tk 108.7 million and evading income tax.
ACC Deputy Director Khairul Huda lodged the case on August 21 after investigation of his wealth based on the affidavits, he submitted to the Election Commission before the 9th and 10th parliamentary elections.
