Court Correspondent :A Dhaka court yesterday (Sunday) sent Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi to jail in a case of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed in connection with amassing unusual wealth.Magistrate Maruf Hossain of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhakapassed the order after the ruling party lawmaker Bodi surrendered to the court seeking bail in the case. On August 21, the ACC filed separate cases with Ramna Police Station against MP Bodi of Cox’s Bazar-4 and two former state ministers–Abdul Mannan Khan and Mahbubur Rahman Talukder. As per the First Information Report (FIR) of the case, Abdur Rahman Bodi submitted his wealth statement to the ACC on February 23 mentioning his and his family’s wealth worth about Tk 5.2 crore. Examining his income tax return, the ACC probe found that he acquired over Tk 16.07 crore in last five years (2009-2013) and earned illegal wealth worth nearly Tk 11 crore.Bodi concealed information about his wealth in the report he submitted to the ACC and mentioned an additional amount of about Tk 2 crore, a higher price of his sold assets to make it legal.
