Criticised over his alleged link to Yaba smuggling and harbouring Rohingyas, Awami League MP from Cox’s Bazar Abdur Rahman Badi is now accused of assaulting an engineer.
The said incident occurred during the monthly meeting of Ukhia Upazila Parishad on Wednesday, according to witnesses.
The Parishad’s Assistant Engineer Mostafa Minhaz alleged MP Badi swore, scolded, and beat him.
Awami League’s Ukhia unit President Hamidul Haque Chowdhury said he heard of the incident from witnesses.
“They said the incident occurred as the government official did not come to the meeting in time,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Md Ali Hossain said MP Badi went to the engineer’s office with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hillol Biswas when he did not turn up even after sending a man for him.
“The MP scolded him at one stage. Then the assistant engineer attended the meeting,” he said.
He also said Badi could complain to the higher authorities if he had something to say against Minhaz.
