Movement to free Khaleda soon, says Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said that the movement to free the party chief Begum Khaleda Zia from jail would begin soon.
“The government has killed democracy through widespread vote rigging on January 30. They also jailed our Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in false and fabricated cases. Our party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has been living abroad. In these circumstances, people are waiting for an anti-government agitation to free Khaleda Zia from jail,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said it in a meeting with local leaders and activists of the party in a hotel in Bogura on his way to Dhaka from Thakurgaon.
The BNP leader said, “The government has crippled election system in the country holding fake polls with widespread irregularities on December 30.”
Mirza Fakhrul demanded re-election cancelling the December 30’s polls results.
“That was not election but farce. The whole nation was shocked,” he said.
The Awami League did not respect people’s verdict.
The country has fallen in a deep crisis again.
A neutral election is a must to overcome such crisis.
Replying to a query, Mirza Fakhrul said, the decision about participating in the upcoming Upazilla election is yet not taken.
Bogra District unit BNP President Saiful Islam, General Secretary Joynal Abedin Chan, former MP Golam Mohammad Siraj, BNP leaders Advocate AKM Mahbubur Rahman, Rezaul Karim Raja, Bogra City BNP President Mahbubur Rahman Bakul and General Secretary Hamidul Haque Chowdhury Hiru, among others, were present.
