Claiming that Awami League has demonstrated its political bankruptcy by using the court as its last resort to foil their movement, BNP on Monday warned that the government will not be able to suppress their agitation with court orders.
In a statement, BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed said, “The government has turned the judiciary into a weapon to suppress the opposition and different opinions. The current illegal government has apparently exposed its political bankruptcy by using the court as its last weapon to subdue people’s justified movement for restoring democracy.”
Earlier on Sunday, the High Court asked the government to take necessary steps to stop the ongoing violence across the country in the name of hartal and blockade.
It also asked the government to ensure a violence-free environment for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees and take stern actions against those who have been creating impediment towards holding the ongoing SCC and its equivalent examinations.
Reacting to the court order about the political movement, Salahuddin said the country’s all organs, including the judiciary, is being run following the direction of a single person, obliterating people’s basic and human rights.
The BNP leader condemned the Prime Minister’s ‘invectives’ against their party chief Khaleda Zia in parliament.
He warned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that she as an order giver will have to shoulder the responsibility of the current state terrorism, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, abductions, killings, repressions and mass arrests.
Salahuddin said their ongoing transport blockade and hartal will continue until their demands, including holding a fresh election under a non-party government, are not realised.
