The authorities of Sonali Bank have taken initiative to modernize the vaults’ security system following burglaries in its two branches digging tunnels.
As part of this effort, the bank will install close circuit (CC) cameras and security alarm systems in the vault and outside the bank branches across the country within the next 15 days. By this time, it will also implement all the directives of the finance ministry regarding reinforcement of security in all the bank vaults.
Mohammad Mufazzal Hossain, Deputy General Manager of Sonali Bank, Head Office, confirmed the matter to media. In a bid to bolster the security system of the bank, talks were being held with several security firms on increasing the number of security personnel in the branches. It will appoint a retired army officer to oversee the entire security system of the Sonali Bank.
“We have sent letters to all branch mangers for taking precautionary measures to stop recurrence of similar incidents,” he noted.
As part of security overhaul, the authorities of the bank have formed 61 inspection teams for monitoring security systems to all branches. The teams have been formed to complete the inspection of all the 1204 branches of the bank throughout the country. The teams would base themselves in the bank’s 61 regional offices.
