The education Ministry has taken up a massive initiative to eliminate corruption from the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) listed educational institutions by way of giving authority to the district and upazila education offices to supervise the activities of the institutions.
The district and upazila offices have to send monthly report to the Ministry with evaluation reports of their respective institutions by the 5th day of every month, the Education Ministry sources said.
A circular with all the directions of the new initiative will be published soon in this regard.
Deputy Secretary (Secondary and Higher Education) of the Ministry Md Rahet Hossain said, the Education Ministry got some findings after evaluating the report of the Department of Inspection and Evaluation (DIE) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.
“The Ministry also detected many common problems as well. It is impossible to evaluate everything by the DIE. That is why the ministry has taken a decision to transfer the supervision authority
to the district and upazila offices,” he said.
“The responsible officials of the ministry have prepared a draft in this regard. It will be circulated after getting nod of the Education Minister.
The district and upazila offices will form a “Stock Taking Committee” to start the activities. They will prepare the annual budget of the respective institutions. The Ministry will take action against the institutions for committing irregularities after evaluating reports of the offices.
Deputy Director of DIA Bipul Chandra Sarker said, the Ministry is working to ensure quality education. Corruption is the main hindrance to reach its target. That is why, the Ministry declared war against corruption in the education sector.
“The DIA found many irregularities of the MPO listed educational institutions across the country. But it is impossible to remove all the corruptions from the institutions with a very small number of staff. The Ministry’s initiative is positive and I hope it will help reduce corruption,” he said.
