Relief distributed among flood victims Moulvibazar District police have distributed relief items in various flood-hit areas of Barlekha upazila, which was devastated by the recent floods. Moulvibazar district police superintendent Mohammad Zakaria on Sunday. Under his leadership, relief materials were distributed among about 600 flood-affected helpless people at various shelters in Bholarkandi of Sujanagar Union No. 9 of Baralekha Upazila and Halla and Islampur of Talimpur Union No. 8. Moulvibazar district police is working sincerely to deal with floods and maintain law and order during natural calamities. A “Flood Monitoring Cell” has been set up and a “Quick Response Team” has also been set up in each Police Station to assist, rescue and rescue people.
Teenage boy commits suicide
Abu Bakkar Siddique Chadik, a teenage boy was committed suicide by poisoning recently after his mother demanded dowry and tortured a woman in Baralekha.
Police recovered the body of the deceased recently and sent it to the morgue of the 250-bed General Hospital in Moulvibazar for autopsy. According to locals, the deceased’s father and uncle Rubel Ahmed, Shefa Begum, wife of Nazim Uddin of Soarartal Birashi village in the upazila, has left her husband’s house with her three children due to a family quarrel. Earlier, Shefa Begum filed a dowry claim and women abuse case against her husband. In that case on Wednesday, Nazim Uddin appeared in court and sought bail. Their eldest son Abu Bakkar Siddique Chadiq (15) testified in court on behalf of his father and the court granted bail to Nazim Uddin. In the incident, mother Shefa Begum scolded the boy and threatened to evict him from the house. The teenage son Abu Bakkar Siddique Chadik drank pesticides. He died at half past one in the night.
1st anniv of Ajker Patrika celebrated
The 1st anniversary of Daily Ajker Patrika has been celebrated in Kamalganj of Moulvibazar. On this occasion, a cake-cutting program was held at the temporary office of Kamalganj Journalists’ Association at Shamshernagar on Monday. Kamalganj Upazila Correspondent Maidul Islam of Daily Ajker Patrika Former President of Kamalganj Journalists’ Association Abdul Hannan Chinu, Prof. Dr. Abdun Nur, Senior Journalist Mujibur Rahman Ranju, President of Kamalganj Journalists’ Association Nurul Mohaimin Milton, General Secretary Kamrul Hasan, Kamalganj were present as guests on the occasion. Pronith Ranjan Debnath, Co-President of the Press Club, Shabbir Elahi, General Secretary. Mostafizur Rahman, journalists Joynal Abedin, Alamgir Hossain, social worker Siddiqur Rahman and others were present there.
Domestic worker electrocuted
The body of a young man named Shiplu Ahmed (24) was recovered from the flood waters on Saturday, six hours after he went missing while cutting grass in Baralekha. Relatives claim he died after being exposed to a power line at a height of only two-thirds of the floodwaters. The deceased was identified as Shiplu Ahmed, son of Chan Miah of Patna village under Sujanagar upazila. It is learned that Shipul Ahmed used to stay at the house of Surman Ahmed, a school teacher in Uttar Sujanagar village of the upazila. Every morning, along with other work, he took a boat to mow the cattle and returned at around 10:30 am. He left at 8 am on Saturday, June 25 and did not return until late in the morning. Later, locals, including relatives and local UP member Kayshar Hamid, recovered the body of Shipul Ahmed from the water at around 4 pm about six hours after he went missing. School teacher Surman Ahmed said Shiplu Ahmed’s body was found in the water under the power line He died of electrocution.
