UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Friday criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s remark that India will ever remember Bangladesh for what it gave to neighbouring country and termed it insulting for the nation.
“The Prime Minister has said India would remember forever what she has so far given India. Nothing can be more offensive and shameful remarks for the nation than this. We strongly condemn it,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Sabujbangla24.com, marking its 5th founding anniversary.
Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, said the Prime Minister admitted that she has given India many things ignoring the national interests. “But you can’t do that being the Prime Minister of an independent country.”
He said, Sheikh Hasina hurt the country’s 16 crore people by saying that she has given their resources to others. “People will surely give a befitting reply to it if the next election is held in a fair and credible manner.”
The BNP leader said, the Prime Minister could not do anything to resolve outstanding problems with India.
He also termed Sheikh Hasina’s recent India tour a failed one as she ‘could not resolve the Teesta-water sharing problem’.
Moudud said, the government has been killing people in the name of an anti-narcotic drive to divert people’s attention to a different direction from the current political crisis.
He alleged that though around 138 people were killed in the drive, the government could not yet arrest listed drug peddlers.
The BNP leader said this Awami League-led government will not be able to control drug abuse as its influential leaders are involved in it and amassed huge wealth through this illicit business.
He said, they are making their best efforts to have Khaleda Zia freed from jail through a legal battle. “But, they (govt) are trying to prolong her stay in jail through various tricks.”
“Waging a strong street movement is the only way to have Khaleda released. We must take preparations for that,” Moudud added.
