Hannan, Nasir may be freed: Moudud, Anwar, Rafiqul get bail in 2 cases

The High Court on Sunday granted six months’ bail to six BNP leaders, including its four standing committee members in different cases relating to political violence.An HC bench comprising Justice Borhanuddin and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the interim order after hearing the bail petitions filed by the BNP leaders’ counsel. Of them, BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, and ASM Hannan Shah, and BNP chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were given bail in twocases filed over Hefajat-e-Islam’s violence in the capital’s Motijheel area on May 5.The court also granted bail to Hannan Shah in three other cases filed in connection with violence during the 18-party’s recent hartal and blockade programmes.Besides, the HC bench awarded bail to BNP chairperson’s adviser Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin in a political violence case. The counsel of Hannan Shah and Mir Nasir said now there is no legal bar to the release of the two leaders as they were given bails in all the cases they were shown arrested.
