The government is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with a Chinese firm for construction of the two flyovers.
The firm, China Railway Construction Corporation (International) Limited (CRCCI), has showed their interest to construct the two flyovers, Shantinagar-Jhilmil flyover in Dhaka and Lalkahnbazaar-Airport flyover in Chittagong, with investors’ financing.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said his ministry has decided to sign an MoU with CRCCI for construction of the two flyovers. “The MoU is likely to be signed at Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) conference room today at 11am,” he said after a discussion with the Chinese delegation at his ministry conference room.
Mosharraf said, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken two projects for construction of mega flyovers in the capital city and commercial capital of the country aimed for easy and uninterrupted road links with the main cities. During the meeting, secretary of the ministry Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, RAJUK chairman GM Jainal Abedin Bhuiya, senior advisor of CRCCI and former Ambassador to Bangladesh Chai Xi, vice president Hufan, Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Abdus Salam, Chief Executive Officer of Public Private Partnership (PPP) Office under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Syed Afsor H Uddin and officials concerned were present.
Chairmen of RAJUK and CDA would sign the MoU with their counterpart separately today, Engineer Mosharraf added.
According to the project details, China Railway Construction Corporation (International) Limited (CRCCI) represents overseas business of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) expressed their interest to design, build and finance as EPC for construction of the flyover from Shantinagar-Mawa road over Buriganga River. The PPP office is working on the feasibility study of the flyover which will be completed soon.
