In an effort to re-establish the returnee migrant workers, affected during the pandemic coronavirus situation, the government has taken steps to provide Tk 200 crore as loan.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Expatriate Welfare bank and Wage Earners Welfare Board at the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment on Sunday.
ManagingDirector of Expatriate Welfare bank Mahtab Zabin of and Director General of Wage Earners’ Welfare Board Md Hamidur Rahman signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad was present as chief guest while Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, secretary to the Ministry,was present as special guest.
The workers who have gone abroad in legal way, sent remittance properly and the families of those workers, who died from coronavirus, will be eligible for the loan.
According to the MoU, the Wage Earners Welfare Board will provide Tk 200crore to the Expatriate Welfare Bank free of interest while the Expatriate Welfare Bank willchargefour percent interestfor the loans.
When Speaking, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad said, “The loan is being arranged for the sustainable rehabilitation of expatriate workers, affected by the coronavirus at a low and simple interest. Later, a more comprehensive rehabilitation programmewill be undertakenwihTk 500 crore provided by the Prime Minister.”
All the activities regarding the disbursement of loan and management will be done following a policy formulated in this regard andtheauthorities concerned will be connected in this process with the help of local administration for ensuring fast, skilled and transparent loan management activities.
