MoU signed between FFWC of BWDB and BDRCS

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) under the Ministry of Water Resources of the Government of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) auxiliary to the government on Tuesday at the Pani Bhaban Conference Room (5th Floor) BWDB, Panthapath, Dhaka.
Feroz Salah Uddin, Secretary General of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society signed on behalf of the BDRCS and Engr Md Nurul Amin, Chief Engineer signed on behalf of the BWDB.
This MoU will increase mutual cooperation between BDRCS and BWDB’s Flood Forecasting & Warning Center (FFWC) in implementing Forecast-based Financing/Action (FbF/A) programmes for taking necessary early action before any floods in Bangladesh with the exchange of knowledge and forecast in time.
As an auxiliary status to the government, BDRCS is the largest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh and is implementing Forecast-based Financing (FbF) project in Cyclone and Flood prone districts and is implementing early action based on the credible forecast before the extreme events. Based on the forecast of FFWC for Floods, BDRCS evacuate most vulnerable groups of people and provide unconditional cash supportto the most vulnerable households through Bangladesh Post Office (BPO).
BDRCS also provide basic first aid support to the injured through trained and dedicated volunteers.To implement early action before the peak offlood uninterruptible forecast and data is necessary which is being providing by the FFWC with skills.This MoU will help in achieving sustainable development goal of the government by improving the socio-economic condition of the country at the local level reducing the humanitarian loss/injuries impending by a natural disaster like flood and will increase in mutual cooperation through the exchange of knowledge, forecast and data services.
