Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) finally allowed app-based motorcycle ride-sharing services to resume their services, provided they maintain a set of health guidelines.
A total of 1,156 motorcycles registered with the road transport regulator was allowed to operate in areas under Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority’s (DTCA) jurisdiction –
Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, and Manikganj.
A circular in this regard was issued on Thursday, and sent to all ride-sharing companies, confirmed an official.
Earlier, ride-sharing services were suspended to curb the coronavirus infections, and remained that way from March 26 to June 21. Only private cars and BRTA enlisted vehicles were allowed to resume ride-sharing from June 22.
A top official of a ride-sharing company on Friday told Dhaka Tribune that they have resumed their services on a limited scale upon receiving the BRTA letter.
