A motor cyclist named Abu Ahad Shaikh (35), was killed on the spot when his motor cycle collided head on with a truck laden with a gas cylinders bound for Dhaka on Khuln-Dhaka Highways at Palpara under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district in Monday morning (at about 11 am), according to a delayed report received here.
It is learnt from the police and some eye-witnesses that in the morning the gas cylinders loaded truck was going from Mongla Port to Dhaka and when it reached the place of occurrence it collided head on with the motor cycle that was coming from the opposite direction. As a result, the cyclist was fatally injured and killed on the spot. Being informed of the matter Thana police, Highway police and the firemen rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. After preparing the spot verification report the dead body was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Police seized the truck. But its driver managed to escape. The deceased was the son of one Shawkat Shaikh of Foila area under Rampal Upazila in the district.
