Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu has claimed that he and his party Jatiyo Samajtantrick Dal (JSD) was not involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.
The Minister said this on Tuesday while reacting to BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman’s recent allegations that Inu and his party JSD was involved in the killing of the Father of the Nation in 1975.
Claiming his innocence, Inu said, “Neither I nor my party JSD was involved in any type of ploy or conspiracy.”
Tarique Rahman, on Sunday, speaking at an event in London, said that Inu and JSD was directly involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur and he (Inu), Workers’ Party chief Rashed Khan Menon and Col Abu Taher were present when Khandaker Moshtaque Ahmed was being sworn in as president after Mujib’s assassination.
Reacting to the BNP leader’s claims, the Information Minister said: I was into hiding then. I had no business with Moshtaque and attending the swearing-in ceremony is out of the question.” Inu said, both Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are talking rubbish to suppress the fact that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.
“Why are the mother and son suddenly speaking nonsense about JSD and me? Why are they restless?” he asked at a media briefing at the Secretariat. JSD-led by Inu, is a stakeholder in the Awami League-led Grand Alliance, which came to power for the second consecutive term after controversial January 5 polls.
“They cannot refute Ziaur Rahman’s involvement in the killing of Bangabandhu and so they are now talking gibberish to conceal the fact,” Inu said.
Inu also said that the BNP was trying to ‘confuse the people’ in a bid to hide ‘Zia’s involvement’ in the killing and his ‘evil deeds’. Earlier, on Monday, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia berated Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Inu for their remarks about the BNP founder.
“Matia Chowdhury had once spoken of beating a drum made out of Sheikh Mujib’s skin while Inu and his colleagues had suggested dumping Mujib’s body in the Bay instead of burying it.”
“They (Matia and Inu) have become Awami League’s friends,” the BNP chief said.
Inu shot back at Khaleda saying: We did not become a part of the Grand Alliance for sharing benefits. We oppose for political causes and we are Awami League’s ally also for political reasons.
Calling upon Khaleda to accept history, Inu said: Your husband was a killer and he also supported killers.
