Extra-martial activities, drug trading led murder, Cops suspect

A mother and her son were found dead with throat slit in a rented house of Mirabazar Kharpara at Sylhet city on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Rokeya Begum, 45, wife of one Helal Ahmed, and their son Rabiul Islam Khokon, 16.
Rokeya ran a beauty parlor in the city and her husband Helal was paralyzed for long and used to live in his brother’s house.
The five-year old girl Raisa was rescued alive with injury mark in her its throat from the apartment. However, their house help, Tania, 16, has been missing.
The family from Jagannathpur area of Sunamganj has been living there by renting an apartment in the building. But their original address is Daudkandi upazila of Comilla district.
On information, Polic rushed to the spot in the afternoon and recovered the bodies, said our local correspondent quoting Police.
Deceased Rokeya’s brother-in-law Faruk Mia said that he last spoke to the victims on Friday evening. It is being suspected that they were killed that night as the bodies decomposed a bit.
Additional Commissioner Paritosh Ghosh said the killers probably wanted to murder Rokeya and her two kids. The minor daughter was choked, but later gained consciousness. Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gowsul Hossain said that the duo might have been murdered on Friday night. The matter is being investigated.
“The reason behind killing Rokeya and her son are yet to be known. We can say further after investigation.” OC Gausul said.
Police suspected that the sensational murder might have taken place for the extra-marital activities as many stranger men used to visit the apartment in the absence of the paralyzed husband of the victim woman, he claimed quoting the locals.
They also recovered two packets of cigarette from the under-locked apartment although the woman’s son was non-smoker, he said.
Police are investigating the incident with the emphasis on extra-marital activities or drug trading, he added,  
Local Ward Councilor Dinar Khan Hashu said hearing the cry of the five years old daughter of Rokeya and smelling bad odor coming from the locked house, neighbours opened the door by a duplicate key around 12:00 pm and spotted the bodies.
A neighbor of the apartment seeking anonymity said that some youths used to visit the house on motorbikes and left the house as per the permission of Rokey Begum.  
Nazmul Hossain, owner of the Sharmin Store in the area, said that Rabiul took part in the SSC examination from Shahjalal Jameia Islamia School and College and never smoked although he bought cigarette from the shop before entering the house in the evening.
Salman Hossen, owner of the house, said that the woman rented the house by promising Tk 13,000 and she mentioned she had a beauty parlor at Pathantuli in the town.
Police entered the flat after opening the under-lock room from the inside by using alternative key, he said.
