An elderly woman and her son were killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Noyabazar area in Chauddagram upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Halima Begum, 60, wife of Kuddus Ali of Samuganj under Kotwali thana in Mymensingh, and the couple’s son Mustafa, 35.
Shoilen Chakma, assistant superintendent of highway police (eastern), said the accident took place in the area around 7:25am when a Chittagong-bound speeding truck mistakenly hit a covered van from behind because of poor visibility caused by dense fog, leaving Halima and Mustafa, who were in the truck, dead on the spot.
Mustafa’s two children and the trucker were also injured in the accident, who were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The ASP also said the family was traveling in the hired truck.
